Description

A study for a reconstruction of the city of Amersfoort, my homecity, around 1570... the highdays of the city. The drawing is a little bit blurry because I had to take a picture of it because it wouldn't fit in to my scanner. You may noticed blurry things above some buildings. That are the names of the most important buildings of the city. This is what is says from left to right, plus a little description of the building:

-Kamppoort (the main northeren gate of the city, doesn't exist anymore),
-Sint Rochus en het Hof de Pot (a place where plaguebearers could find a home, and the poor people a meal, nowadays a place to home eldery people, they still live in the old buildings),
-Sint Jan (a monastry dedicated to Saint John, doesn't exist anymore),
-Bloemendalsepoort (the gate at the north-west side of the city, doesn't exist anymore),
-Viepoort (one of the gates that remains of the first city wall, still exist but only the front of the gate and not the main building),
-Sint Agnieten (one of the two monastries that where dedicated to Saint Agnes, doesn't exist anymore),
-Sint Barbara (the monastery of Saint Barbara, doesn't exist anymore),
-Sint Joris (The parish and main church of Amersfoort),
-Heilige Geest (Its replaced by a newer church),
-Havickerpoort (one of the gates that remains of the first city wall, doesn't exist anymore),
-Mariënhof (a monastry dedcated to Saint Mary, parts of it still exist, but the chapel is no longer there),
-Raethuis (the cityhall of Amersfoort, doesn't exist anymore),
-Onze Lieve Vrouwe (Only the tower is still standing, the church was destroyed by a gunpowder explosion in 1787),
-Sint Aagten (one of two monastries that where dedicated to Saint Agnes, only the chapel still exist),
-Sint Pieter en Blokland (a carehouse for eldery people, only the chapel and the hall for the men still exist),
-Observanten (a monastery dedicated to Saint Franciscus of Asisi. Some parts still exists but without the chapel),
-Koppelpoort (a combined water/land gate, it is the most famous building next to the greath tower because the railwaybridge is crossing the water just 50 meters at the front of the gate, it still exist)
